Background

The Heinzerling Foundation provides services to individuals living in and around central Ohio.
How and when did the organization get started?
The Heinzerling Foundation was founded in 1959 in Columbus, Ohio by Otto and Mildred Heinzerling. Driven by a deep desire to help children with disabilities, Otto and Mildred opened up a 12 bedroom facility to provide a home for children who had no services available to them. Mildred and volunteers cared for the children on site day and night, while Otto spent much of his time fundraising for the organization. The Heinzerling Foundation is celebrating its 56th Anniversary this year. Since the very beginning, Heinzerling has assisted thousands of children and adults with severe developmental disabilities and provided them with a higher quality of life.
