What We Do
Empowering Youth with the Skills, Motivation and Confidence to Make our World a Better Place!
From childhood to adulthood, See Kids Dream’s goal is to make service learning a part of every kid’s life experience. Our programs provide kids with the knowledge, the tools and the opportunities they need to become compassionate and engaged community members and leaders… not just today… but for a lifetime.
The impact we seek:
It’s not enough to simply care about a problem; nor is it very effective to provide support without understanding the impact of your actions… communities need citizens who are engaged, and who can take perspective, and take action.
This is why See Kids Dream’s programs focus on building both skills and empathy.
Service learning is uniquely capable of growing leadership skills and empathy at the same time. Youth are given the task and decision-making role of identifying a community need, and how best to address it. Through their research, they learn about community needs, the challenges to addressing them, and the many ways each of us can help… this generates a strong sense of empathy. And as students gather the community’s input, make decisions and develop and implement their plan to help, they build skills and knowledge for how to get involved and make an impact. This means they know how to do it again.
Each of our programs teaches kids 3 important lessons about helping:
1. EVERYONE can help.
2. We’re better at helping, when we understand the problem.
3. When we work together, we make a bigger impact.
Each of our programs follows best practices for service learning and includes 5 factors that are critical to generating long-term civic engagement: awareness of community issues; empathy; leadership skills; knowledge of community resources; and real-world service experience. Through our programs, youth develop the skills that are critical for their success in school, in the workplace and in our community.
To engage as many youth as possible, See Kids Dream partners with schools and a wide range of nonprofit organizations. We also offer community-based service learning programs for families.
