What We Do

See Kids Dream’s mission is to empower youth with the skills, motivation, and confidence to make our world a better place.

See Kids Dream was founded in Columbus, Ohio by Bill and Laura Grindle in 2008. See Kids Dream partners with Central Ohio elementary schools to facilitate year-long service-learning programs. Throughout the school year, students identify needs in our community, research and create projects to address the need, and discover their own ability to make a difference!

What is Service-Learning? Service-learning combines education with community service. In See Kids Dream programs, youth are put in a decision-making role. They are given the opportunity to research causes that matter to them, and then find ways to help!

Service-Learning is powerful because it allows students to develop both empathy and leadership skills at the same time. It teaches young leaders that their voice IS powerful, and that they CAN lead change in our community. We believe all kids should have the opportunity to address the needs they see in their community, so See Kids Dream partners with schools to make service-learning accessible.

When kids are empowered to serve their community, they are more likely to take on leadership roles in their future, and they are more likely to continue participating in civic activities. For today and tomorrow, See Kids Dream’s Service-Learning Programs are empowering youth to make our world a better place.

Our New Chapter: Better Together with Directions for Youth & Families See Kids Dream is now an affiliate organization under the Directions for Youth & Families (DFYF) service umbrella. This strategic partnership allows us to enhance our mission and broaden our impact. By joining forces, we combine SKD’s expertise in youth empowerment through service-learning with DFYF’s extensive experience in family support services – making us truly better together!

What This Means for Our Community

  • Enhanced Programs: The merger will enable us to offer more comprehensive programs that address both educational and family support needs, fostering a stronger, more resilient community.
  • Increased Resources: With the combined resources of SKD and DFYF, we can extend our reach to more schools and neighborhoods, ensuring that more children and families benefit from our initiatives.
  • Sustainable Impact: This partnership secures the future of our programs, providing stability and the ability to innovate and grow.
