Boys and Girls Club of Columbus

The Boys & Girls Clubs has too many volunteer activities to count! Kids can help us with school supply drives, Christmas and holiday toy drives, holiday meals, Halloween parties, winter clothing drives, bulletin board and art projects, service projects, National Boys & Girls Club week and summer program preparation and advocacy. Donations are always welcome too! We also welcome unique project ideas that kids come up with. Our Club kids like to get involved in projects too!

What is your organization’s mission statement?

To empower the young people who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

What population do you serve?

Young people ages 6-18.

How many do you serve in a year?

We involve about 4,000 students each year.

What region or area do you provide services in?

We serve kids from 40 different neighborhoods throughout Columbus and we continue to grow each year!

How and when did the organization get started?

In 1948, some leaders from Columbus noticed that too many young boys were getting into trouble when they were out of school. They reached out to Boy’s Clubs of America (this was before they let the girls in) and asked them to help establish a Boys Club in the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus where there was a lot of need.

Today we have grown to 6 club locations that serve 4,000 youth a year and we are also now the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus.

How many employees do you have?

We have 7 full time staff and 30 part time staff.

How do your programs or services help the community?

Too many kids in Columbus do not have a safe and positive place to go when they are not in school. A lot of neighborhoods have high crime, some kids don’t have enough to eat and many struggle in school. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place that kids can go where they can develop relationships with caring adults, spend time with friends and participate in experiences that will help them do better in school and grow into caring and responsible citizens.

Program Descriptions

The Great Futures Initiative encompasses all program and activities delivered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus.

Boys & Girls clubs are unique because we offer kids the following:

1. A safe, positive place for kids to spend time when they are not in school. We are open everyday from 3-8 pm and all day during the summer.  We provide snacks and meals for all kids at the club, even including dinner!

2. Enriching experiences. The Clubs offer some of the most awesome opportunities for kids. We take kids on field trips to places in our community that kids might never otherwise get the chance to visit.  We even take trips to national conferences where kids can develop leadership skills.  The Boys & Girls Clubs open kids’ minds to what is possible for their future.

3. Passionate Professionals. Our staff are the #1 reason that kids like coming to the Club. They are fun and know how to help when kids need it.
