Who are the People in your Neighborhood?

According to a Pew Research Center study, only one in four adults knows most of their neighbors. Reach out to your neighbors, from a safe distance, about how they are coping with virus worries and see how you can help each other.

Why is it important?

We can all benefit from knowing our neighbors and building support for one another. You and your neighbors may need support the most during these difficult times. This is a perfect time to get to know your neighbors and share feelings with one another. You may find that your neighbors are in a similar situation, and you can relate to each other.

What supplies do you need?

  • Paper
  • Pencil/pen
  • Markers

What steps do you need to take?

  1. There are several different ways to communicate with your neighbors, but first you need to get their names and contact information
  2. One way you can let you neighbors know that you want to connect is by creating a note or flyer and put it in their mailbox . In the flyer or note be sure to:
    • Introduce your family and give them your contact information
    • Tell them how you want them to contact you with their information
    • Tell them what information you want to know from them
    • Tell them what you are going to do with the information:
      • create a neighborhood/street/floor directory that can be shared in Google docs?
      • setup a neighborhood Facebook group?
      • create a list of people who can help each other?
      • Other ideas to help connect while social distancing?
  3. Gather supplies for creating your note or flyer and create one for the neighbors that you want to try and connect with.
  4. Share your note or flyer with your neighbors. Even neighbors you know!

How did it go?

  • How did it feel to learn new things about your neighbors?
  • Can you relate to how any of your neighbors are feeling about the virus?
  • Do you feel more connected to your community?
