How and when did the organization get started? 

In 1998, Cozy Cat Cottage was started by a small group of volunteers from another shelter who were appalled at the poor medical care provided to the animals. The founders of Cozy Cat Cottage withdrew money from their own savings to pay for one year’s rental of a tiny storefront in Powell, Ohio. The founders had no business experience and did not have knowledge about starting a nonprofit organization…they just knew they wanted to help. They began with 4 cats which they purchased from their former shelter. Their goal was to provide excellent medical care for animals rescued from the street, to follow a strict no-kill philosophy and to find quality, loving homes. Today, Cozy Cat Cottage is a large, bright, clean facility which is home to 200+ cats at any time. Cats stay with us until a good home is found, no matter how long it takes. To date, we have found homes for more than 8,100 cats, most of whom would have died on the streets or been euthanized elsewhere.
