Faith Mission

Hands on Work

Faith Mission needs help in our kitchen with food service and cleaning responsibilities.  We also need people to sort the donations of goods and food that we receive.

Who can help: Anyone age 18 or older or age 14-17 with an adult

Collect and Donate Office Supplies

The Faith Mission Resource Center needs many office supplies to keep running.  Everything from computer paper, folders and small note books help the homeless shelter residents find jobs.

Run a Food Collection Drive

Because the Faith Mission provides 3 meals a day, every day of the year, food donations are always appreciated.  Collecting non-perishable or canned food items in your classroom or neighborhood is a good way to help Faith Mission continue to provide meal service.

Organize a Fundraiser

Faith Mission relies on cash donations to keep our homeless shelters, kitchens, and Resource Center open and available every day of the year.

What is your organization’s mission statement?

Faith Mission creates a better world by serving people in need.

What population do you serve?

Faith Mission of Ohio helps the homeless and needy people in the Central Ohio area with shelter, food, medical services, and support.

How many do you serve in a year?

Faith Mission helps thousands of homeless and needy people in the Central Ohio area.  Each year we provide over 90,000 nights of shelter, about 270,000 meals, and over 5,000 visits to our free medical, dental and vision clinics.

What region or area do you provide services in?

Faith Mission serves the central Ohio area. We have three locations near the Columbus downtown area that provide shelter, food, and other services.

How and when did the organization get started?

Faith Mission began operations on February 6, 1966 when another local mission offering food and shelter was closed.  Reverend Sam Goers and other members of the Trinity Lutheran Church started Faith Mission so that the homeless and needy in Columbus could continue to get shelter and food.

Faith Mission has been in operation ever since, and in 1998 it became part of the Lutheran Social Services family.

Today the Faith Mission provides 24-hour emergency shelter and operates in three locations in central Ohio.  It is the only organization in Franklin County that provides three free meals a day, every day of the year to anyone who is hungry.

How many employees do you have?

Faith Mission has 82 employees.

How many volunteers does your organization have?  (click the “Service Projects” tab to learn more about volunteer opportunities)

Faith Mission has hundreds of volunteers each year who help with a range of activities including food service, sorting food, and cleaning.

How do your programs or services help the community?

Because of the work of the Faith Mission, over 270,000 meals are provided every year to people living in Columbus, and the homeless are given a warm safe place to sleep when it is needed.

We also provide free medical clinics and employment services so that the people we help can stay healthy, and have a chance to get a job and improve their lives.

Program Descriptions

Homeless Shelter: We are the largest shelter system in central Ohio.  Every day of the year we offer shelter for men and women and no one is turned away in extreme weather.

Daily Food Service: Faith Mission is the only kitchen in central Ohio that is able to provide free meals three times a day, every day of the year.

Employment Services: Faith Mission offers a Resource Center to assist people who are trying to find a job.  The resource center provides a personal voicemail and access to phone, fax, and Internet.  We have 44 active employment partners to assist in providing jobs with a good wage, and we offer help with resumes, training, and interview skills.

Free Medical Clinics: Faith Mission offers free medical clinics.  Local healthcare professionals volunteer their time to provide a range of medical services to local people experiencing homelessness.
